Rock Scrambling at Joshua Tree

My mom was only here in California for less than 5 days, but we did so much in those 5 days. One of my favorite things about her visit was showing off our lovely desert (it is lovely right now, all green with spring.)

I somehow wanted to squeeze in a little time at Joshua Tree National Park. It is an amazing place to view from the car, but there is nothing like getting out and actually touching the rocks. We were able to sneak off one morning for a quick run up to Keys View for a grand, clear view of the Coachella Valley and of the Santa Rosa Mountains (of which we would be visiting later the afternoon.) It was WINDY up there! So windy that it was difficult to stand. A little scary when you are standing over a rock cliff!

On our way down, we stopped by a short trail that led to a "rock pile" where there were a few rock climber scaling the walls. It is so easy to stand afar from these rocks and ignore their enormous size and the playground effect it has on your psyche. But if you walk up next to them it is impossible not to explore them. YOU HAVE TO CLIMB THEM! Irresistible!

So up we went! We didn't go too far, but it still gave us a beautiful views of the park. My mom is correct in saying that photos don't really capture it beauty of the park.

It was fun spending this type of fun with Mom. It will always be a great memory!

This is so lovely. You are so lucky. I have gotten three different snowfalls of over 2 inches each in the past 10days.
